Basic League Rules:
Format is 8 v 8
30 Minute halves with 10 minute halftime
Games need to start on time
NO slide tackling
No Off sides
Feet cannot go higher than hips
At least 3 women on the field at all times
2 goal maximum per person per game
Women’s goals count for 2 points, men’s goals – 1 point
5 touch rule – maximum 5 (ish) touches by one person before the ball must be passed. This is to prevent those of you who can, from going “coast to coast” and to improve participation from all players.
Suggested substitute rotation is every 5 – 7 minutes to make sure everyone gets playing time.
Referees will not be used. Instead captains will govern their respective team's conduct. Captains are to meet before the start of the game to make themselves known to each other. We suggest that you meet again at half time to review the intent of the league's tempo and to use diplomacy and wit to work through any issues. Everyone is expected to use good judgment regarding fair play, good manners and a proper regard for all players whether they are teammates or opponents.
Captains need to delegate the responsibility of a single time & score keeper to a volunteer family member or friend.
Things to Keep In Mind:
This is little league soccer for adults.
We are here first and foremost to have fun. Yes winning is fun, but winning at all cost is not fun for your teammates nor the team you are maiming to achieve the win.
We are here for exercise. Everyone on the pitch is there to get exercise and if you are not passing the ball then no one else is getting much exercise.
There is no trophy at the end of the game for anything so it is not going to hurt a thing, in fact it is expected, for you to send the ball to someone regardless of what their skill level may be.
Learn the other team’s players as well. If you find yourself challenging a player from the other team that isn’t very skilled with the ball, don’t feel compelled to quickly strip them of the ball just because you can. You know as soon as you put pressure on them they are going to just kick ball it away and the ball will be yours anyway.
Finally we want to walk without limping to work on Monday. We are too old to be playing like we are 18. Playing aggressive i.e. throwing elbows, hard tackles, even throwing hip checks, though some may be within the rules of soccer, are not part of this leagues scope. Those practices are conducive to injury. There are many things which are legal in the FIFA rules of soccer that have no place on our pitch at our level.
Sportsmanship is everything. If you take someone out by accident go above and beyond what is necessary to reconcile the mistake. Stop your play, help them up, apologize, give them the ball, buy them a beer… what ever, but don’t walk away from that spot without making sure that person has no desire to “get even”. Escalation will just lead to anger, retaliation and ultimately injury. If anyone is sore it should be solely from their own efforts and not due to someone else’s efforts.
