NEXT REFEREE COURSE:
TBA
Referees are a necessary and important part of the overall ABYSA playing experience. Each weekend of the season the fields are full of young players ready to play and have fun. We have many local adults and teenagers who have taken the referee licensing course and have been certified to officiate the games in which the children love so much. Please show your respect and appreciation to these individuals, many of them new to officiating, as they work hard on Saturdays to enforce the laws of the game of soccer and develop as a referee.
ABYSA contracts with the French Broad Soccer Officials Association (FBSOA) to provide referees for our games. FBSOA’s responsibility is to recruit, train, and assign referees. We share referees with High School Soccer, Collegiate soccer, and Adult amateur Soccer. With so many games to referee in our growing soccer community, recruiting new referees to work our youth league games is a never ending challenge.
ABYSA invites anyone 14 years of age or older who is interested in refereeing youth soccer to take the next referee course. Courses are offered during two times of the year: December or January and June or July. Refereeing soccer is a good way to make a little extra spending money, and contribute to the positive team sports experience that ABYSA wishes to provide every child in Western North Carolina. Growing the referee pool so that we can have every ABYSA covered with a certified official will require a grass roots effort, so please do your part to spread the word about this opportunity.
More information about what it takes to be a referee can be found at: www.ncsra.org
To find out when the next course is please contact Ed Guzowski, FBSOA president, at guzowski@charter.net. Ed will contact you regarding your interest in the upcoming courses so that you or your child can attend and begin refereeing games for ABYSA next season.
