2006 ABYSA Vision and Strategic Goals

Vision:
Youth soccer should be so much fun that all involved - players, coaches, referees, and parents, will want to play or be personally involved with the game of soccer for the remainder of their lives.

Mission:
Asheville Buncombe Youth Soccer Association will strive to provide an unqualified positive soccer environment instilling a life-long love, enthusiasm, and passion for the game for any child desiring to play or officiate the game of soccer. ABYSA will accomplish this by:

1. FIELDS:
Developing and implementing a plan to procure new practice and game surfaces, and renovate/maintain existing surfaces. Explanation: Currently ABYSA players and teams are using 200 different fields for practice and games. Many of the fields are in very rough and poor condition. Renovating existing fields and increasing the number of quality fields for practice and games is a cornerstone for growth and quality soccer.

2. COACHES:
Recruiting and training enthusiastic and knowledgeable coaches for ages U-5 through U-12. Explanation: Coaches properly trained for U-5 through U-12 teams will have a good understanding of the skills necessary to coach U-13 through U-18 where teams play 11 v 11.

3. REFEREES:
Implementing recruiting, training, compensation, and retention strategies for referees at all age levels of youth play. The quality of soccer games depends in part on having enough quality referees for games and scrimmages. ABYSA, along with all other associations, has been charged by NCYSA to actively become involved in the development of a referee pool for our association.

4. PLAYERS:
Increasing recruitment and retention of youth soccer players of all ages, gender, race and creed, and economic status by improving the quality of fields, coaches, and scholarship capability of ABYSA. Soccer is a simple team sport minus the costs associated with other organized youth sports. By increasing field availability, coaches, and financial stability of the association, more children will be able to play youth soccer.

5. VOLUNTEERS:
Developing and implementing a plan for recruiting, training, and managing a large volunteer base for ABYSA. The heart and soul of ABYSA is the volunteer base, which provides the environment for our children to play recreational and competitive soccer. Recruitment, coordination, supervision, and recognition of our volunteers are imperative for continued success.

6. FUND RAISING:
Developing and implementing a coordinated fund raising program that supports the implementation of ABYSA's Goals 1 through 4. ABYSA is a not-for-profit organization and is not rich in financial resources. Our ability to supplement the funds necessary for continued operations and growth will depend on the collective acquisition of funds and resources required to support our goals.

7. BUSINESS SYSTEMS:
Developing an organizational structure that (1) emphasizes policy setting by the Board of Directors and (2) implements an operational structure with controls required of a well-run organization. ABYSA is the fourth largest soccer association in North Carolina. As a not-for-profit, community-owned organization, it is imperative that this association operates in a manner that is accountable to our parents, children, municipal leaders, and the general public.
