Under-5 Program-Fall 2010
(Children born between:  Aug 1st, 2005 and July 31st, 2006)

• Registration: Deadline for the Fall 2010 season is Sept, 7th. Let your friends know they can register their child today!
• Late Registrations:  Any registration received after the September 7th deadline. Late fee is $10.00.

• Season runs:  Fall season- September-November – Spring season March-May
  Length of Season: 7 weeks, one hour a week on Saturdays.
• Cost: $65.00 Players must purchase new uniform each fall season in ABYSA. In the spring of 2010, returning player’s fees are $48 dollars since you have a uniform from the fall season.
• Description:  Play groups are formed and play each Saturday.  Each team will be assigned a time-slot that will remain the same throughout the season.  Coaches will work together to take their play group through a 30 minute practice and will then play a thirty minute game. Players are expected to be part of the practice as well as the game. Coaches will receive coaching curriculum designed by ABYSA Director of Coaching and Player Development, Shane Weems, which will be made up of developmentally and age appropriate practice activities.  All activities are fun, friendly games intended to teach ball control and further each child’s love for the game.  

Under-6 Programs- Fall 2010
Children born between:  Aug 1st, 2004 and July 31st, 2005

  Game Play Locations:  John B. Lewis Soccer Complex also called JBL at Azalea Park.

• Season runs:  Fall season- September-November / Spring season March-May Length of Season: 11 weeks, 8 games, 2 days a week, -1 practice a week (in local school district) and 1 game on Saturday.
• Rain Make-ups:  When a game is cancelled due to weather, games will be made up during a weeknight later in the season or will be added after your last scheduled game.
• Game Play Locations:  Buncombe County Sports Park and John B. Lewis Soccer Complex
• Cost:  $75 - Note: Players must purchase a new uniform each fall with ABYSA. In the spring, returning player’s fees are $58 dollars since you have a uniform already.
• Description:  Teams were formed randomly by school district each fall season and will remain the same through the Spring 2011 season with the exception of a few players who do not return. Spring players will be added to existing rosters to fill out teams. Teams will practice one day a week within your HS District. Each team will play games each Saturday. Each team will be assigned a time-slot that will remain the same throughout the season.  Coaches will receive a coaching curriculum designed by ABYSA Director of Coaching and Player Development, Shane Weems, which will be made up of developmentally and age appropriate practice activities.  All activities are fun, friendly games intended to teach ball control and decision making while furthering each child’s love for the game.  During the week the coach will take the children through the practice curriculum and then let the players scrimmage at the end of each practice session.  On game day, each coach will work with the opposing coach and take both teams’ children through 1 of the practice activities to reinforce the skills learned during the week before starting the game (15 min combined warm up followed by a 40-45 min game).  Pictures will be scheduled during one of the weeks of the program.

• Description:  This age group will start a week later than other programs to allow teams extra time to recruit players.  Teams are formed by school district and play a game each Saturday at the John B. Lewis Soccer Complex, the Buncombe County Sports Park, Glen Arden Elem, North Buncombe Park, Fletcher Park, and Jackson Park.  In the event that a district does not have enough players we will work to combine districts to form a solid team.  Each team will practice during the week throughout the season.  Coaches will receive a coach’s handbook designed by ABYSA Director of Coaching and Player Development, Shane Weems, which will be made up of developmental and age appropriate practice activities.  All activities are fun, friendly games intended to teach ball control and decision making while furthering each child’s love for the game.   Pictures will be scheduled during one of the weeks of the program. 

TOPSoccer Program (ages 5-18)

• Game Play Locations:  Buncombe County Sports Park
• Cost:  $20
• Format:  Players will go through stations and then play in a game at the end of each session. Sunday from 2 pm to 3:15pm
• Description:  ABYSA TOPSoccer is a community based soccer program for young athletes with special needs. The emphasis of this program is on development, training, and meaningful participation rather than on competition. TOPSoccer was formed to perpetuate the USYSA mission statement, which is “to foster the physical, mental, and emotional growth and development through the sport of soccer at all levels of age and abilities”. Our goal is to enable these young athletes with disabilities to develop their physical fitness, technical skills, courage and self esteem, through the joy and excitement of playing soccer.

We will hold the third season of TOPSoccer this fall and you may register for this program by going to www.abysa.org and clicking on the TOPSoccer tab on the main page. On this page you will be able to register online and you will find all the forms and necessary information to get your athlete signed up and ready to go for the season! The cost of the program is $10.00 and each player will receive an ABYSA uniform!
