Sports Performance Program to be led by Mena Rojas

Highland Football Club (HFC) Announces Sports Performance Director and Program for Fall 2022 Season

Western North Carolina, May 2, 2022-HFC is excited to announce Coach Jimena Rojas as Sports Performance Director and the implementation of an in-house sports performance program beginning with the Fall 2022 Season.

Coach Rojas graduated from the University of Costa Rica with a degree in Physical Education and has her master’s degree in Education with a specialization in Teaching Soccer. She went on to earn her “A” Coaching License in Leipzig Germany after which she spent three months specializing in Elite Performance Athletes through the International Olympic Committee at their training grounds in  Barcelona, Spain. Rojas, known as “Coach Mena” to HFC players and families, worked for the Costa Rican Olympic Committee for three years as a Sports Performance Analyst. She was the first female active coach on a men’s D1 Pro Team in Latin America and spent three seasons as Performance Coach and Assistant Coach of the UCR in Costa Rica.

Coach Mena will guide weekly functional sports performance sessions at HFC fields during regularly scheduled training times with HFC ECNL Regional League teams. Coach Rojas will also instruct and educate HFC NCYSA State League team coaches with sports performance activities, recommendations, and guidance to increase the effectiveness of all of our competitive division coaching staff.

Coach Rojas is no stranger to creating and implementing sports performance programs that improve the strength, speed, agility, and overall athletic effectiveness of soccer players, as she has done this before at both Charlotte Independence (ECNL National and Regional League Girls) and Lake Norman Soccer Club (Elite NPL Boys and Girls).

“We are thrilled to have the expertise of Coach Rojas to guide our new Sports Performance Program and look forward to the results our players and teams will experience as we help them prepare for high-level competition,” says Executive Director, Mike Rottjakob.
