HFC Pre-Academy Program Overview

What is Pre-Academy?
The HFC Pre-Academy program is a skill building program available for both girls and boys already participating in 7U-10U ABYSA Recreation programs in Buncombe, Henderson, and Madison County. The Pre-Academy program provides a platform to introduce players to a training experience consistent with ABYSA's next levels of play:
HFC Academy 8U-10U and HFC Competitive 11U-19U

Pre-Academy participants should also be signed up to play rec soccer.  If signed up for Rec and Pre-Academy together, players will go to their Recreation team practice one day of the week and then come to their assigned Pre-Academy practice for a second practice per week. These two practices together will help accelerate learning and help players develop more skills to enjoy the game.  Make sure you are also signed up to play rec soccer so that your child can be part of a team.  Pre-Academy is not a team program but is 7 additional skill-building sessions to enhance development of the player.

Pre-Academy Developmental Focuses:
The United States Soccer Federation (USSF) has identified the importance of early exposure to proper soccer skill techniques as vital to the growth and potential success of young players. We also feel that possessing the proper technical skills will not only prepare the players for the next level but, will, more importantly, increase their enjoyment of the game. That's why we designed the Pre-Academy program as a technical skill building program for the 7U-10U age groups. This is our 18th year offering the program and the feedback from families has always been extremely positive.

Pre-Academy Coaching:
Each member of the Pre-Academy Program staff has played professional, collegiate, or high level club soccer and is qualified to teach developmentally appropriate soccer material to youth soccer players.

The program is offered during the Fall and Spring Recreation Seasons.
The HFC Pre-Academy program will always begin after the 1st recreation games for the season start, so communication about Pre-Academy will be limited during the time where most of our resources are dedicated to launching the ABYSA Recreation season. If you have any questions, please contact the Pre-Academy Director or Administrator listed in the 'Contact Us' section below.

Fall 2024 Pre-Academy Ages:
All 7U - 10U players* (Birth years 2018-2015).

*Players born in 2017 - 2015 are eligible for our 8U-10U Academy Program. Click the program name if you'd like program information and placement evaluations for the Fall or Spring seasons.

ABYSA Sportsmanship Award

ABYSA and ABC Pediatrics of Asheville are proud of our ongoing partnership with the SPORTSMANSHIP AWARD PROGRAM.

ABC Pediatrics of Asheville and ABYSA, recognize that the life lessons learned from being part of a sports team are just as important as the physical activity and exercise that sport provides. We are grateful to ABC Pediatrics for helping us make learning about sportsmanship a core value of our recreation program and providing a format for coaches and parents to help our children learn these important lessons. We hope you will join us in using this program as a teaching tool.
